When students get admission letter that they have been admitted into the university they applied for, they become very happy. Often this is because they perceive their admission into the university as a good start for their journey of success in life.

For the many, their hope is to graduate successfully from the University and get a well-paying job. Families also do a lot of sacrifices--some even sell valuable family property and spend a lot of money as investment into the education of the family member whose education they are taking care of. In return, the families expect that their member would graduate from the university to secure a well-paying job and be able to give back in terms of money to the family. But unfortunately what happens to some families is the opposite of their expectations--the family member does not get job after graduating from the university. Many of the graduates become jobless despite how much money their family invested in their education.

Today let us look at the chances that a student in Ghana will get a job after graduation.  According to a 2017 article by Citi FM Online , "Data from the Institute of Statistics, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) of the University of Ghana, has revealed that only 10 per cent of graduates find jobs after their first year of completing school." The same data also says that It may take up to 10 years for a large number of graduates to secure employment.  According to Trading Economics, in 2018 the number of people who graduated from tertiary institutions in Ghana was "109, 874 Persons in 2018, according to the World Bank collection of development indicators, compiled from officially recognized sources."

Now think about it: suppose that each year 100,000 people graduate from tertiary institutions, find out for yourself, each year how many jobs are created in Ghana. Available data shows that it is very hard to find job in Ghana after graduating from university and that it may take up to 10 years for many to find job. If you intend to find job after graduation, instead of waiting to find job after graduation, you might want to create one before you graduate from school. Hopefully this helps you to plan well.
